Managing the Risks of Extreme Events & Disasters Posted November 18, 2011 by Adrian Nance

We thank the IPCC and all involved for a Special Report that helps keep us focused on anticipating the effects of intense rain on people in developing countries.   This help us minimise the impact of disasters on vulnerable people.

This latest report highlights that

  • whilst the economic impact of disasters is highest on highly developed countries;
  • 95% of the fatalities from disasters occur in developing countries;
  • in many regions the time between unusually intense rainstorms will decrease;
  • the report’s key words for the future are: anticipation, critical reflection, knowledge and learning.

We continue to aim to fund disaster response and where necessary build disaster response capacity by positioning appropriate helicopters.
